From kmspider@aol.com Sun Oct 13 15:42:41 1996 Authors note: I actually wrote this before I read Sheryl Martin's Watchers. Time Frame: Sometime after Paper Clip. Summary: Mulder's concerned about his fish. Rating: PG for a little UST. Disclaimer: Don't own 'em. Can't afford to buy 'em. Just borrowed 'em. Characters belong to Carter, Fox, and 1013. The fish are all mine. FISH EYED VIEW by KMS! kmspider@aol.com The man approached the tank again. The fish known as Hulk swam closer to the glass to get HIS attention, swimming to the top of the tank and back to the window to gaze dolefully at the man. "FEED US!" Hulk silently urged. The man must have read his mind as he reached over and knocked flakes of food into the tank. Gratefully Hulk and the others swam up to the top of the water and hungrily gulped down their dinner. The man continued to stare at them, gently tapping the glass dividing them. "You know your not supposed to do that," Scully said behind Mulder. Mulder glanced over his shoulder at the short redhead, before returning his attention to his fish. "Do you think they're swimming funny?" Scully peered through the glass at the slowly meandering fish. "They look fine to me, Mulder." Hulk took a swift dive at Martha, taking a bite of her tail. Martha scooted away from him and hid in the sunken spaceship. "They've been acting kind of aggressive lately. Do you think something could be wrong." Hulk would have snorted if he could. Wrong! Wrong! What could be wrong! Just because the last time someone broke into the apartment and ransacked it they had nearly upended the tank. Just give ME the mug book and I'll pick out the bastards myself. "Mulder, you didn't give them fresh water when they were poisoning your water supply, did you?" Scully stared harder at the fish for a moment. Hulk liked the color of the woman's eyes. They reminded him of the sky. The man's eyes reminded him of the sea. Changing colors from placid gray to dark and stormy. "I might have. I don't remember. I wasn't thinking very clearly at the time." Mulder reached over and tapped the glass again. Hulk watched as Walter made a lunge at the finger. Mulder quickly pulled back his hand as if he had been bitten. Beside him, Scully giggled. "That will teach you to name him after Skinner." Mulder shot her a dirty look. "I know they're only fish, but I worry about them." Oh yeah, only fish. Don't bother to ask us where all the listening devices in the room were hidden, Hulk thought. Oh nooooo! We're only fish! Not like the one hidden under the fish tank light. Or the one in the window shade. No, No. We're ONLY fish. We don't know nothing. 'We don't need no stinkin' badges.' I have definitely lived with this guy too long, Hulk thought, too much late night television. "Maybe, I should change the water today." "Should I go down and check the water filtration system in the building first," Scully said with a chuckle. Mulder shot her an exasperated glance. "Want to help?" "How?" Mulder turned his gaze directly at her. "I'll give you the tube and you can start sucking it out." At her raised eyebrow, he added, " Into the bucket." "Oh." Scully said, with a raise of her chin. Go for it, buddy!, Hulk thought. Beats the hell out of sleeping on the couch! Maybe you'll stop having nightmares. Hulk blew a bubble out in disgust. No way! The last time this woman was here in the middle of the night someone took a shot at her. Right through the window! Good thing they missed the tank! Visions of being a dried up husk on the floor like Bette swam through Hulk's mind. Bette should never have cared for the man so much. And the man should not have left the top of the tank open so Bette could jump out to get his attention. Bad move! Mulder moved away from the tank to get the necessary supplies. Bucket. Suction tube. Fresh filter. Clean rock. He would probably lose some fish. Sadly, he shook his head. It had to be done. At least he didn't have to do it alone. CLEAN TANK! I think I'll just die from the shock, Hulk snickered. _________________________ THE END send all comments to: kmspider@aol.com
